SAS is a new empowerment community based group. Our mission is simple, finding ways to empower ourselves and others to love our bodies. We will empower ourselves with positivity and support. We will find ways to love ourselves and each other. My personal belief is that beauty is in the mind! My mind is beautiful and my body is beautiful. I adorn my body with clothing that makes me feel beautiful. I choose to accept beautiful things in my life. I personally revolt against the idea that my size limits me in clothing or lifestyle choices. That makes me personally feel good. I want to share that feeling with others!
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, or so they say. I say that beauty is embodied by those who refuse to believe they are anything less regardless of a beholder existing. The body positive mantra and body positive movement agrees with me. The present standard of beauty is bogus, and dominated by unattainable and unhealthy goals. The world is obsessed with bodies. While women and men are mourning their bodies, they should be celebrating them. The body positivity movement is about health, identity and self-respect. Women and men of any weight, age, race, measurement or proportion are beautiful. And once they find the power inside to believe that they will be free from pain and the eyes of those who choose to fat shame others.
I myself am larger than what the world says I should be. I know this because I don’t fit into a mold of what is acceptable by the media. They call me plus sized and I don’t know what they mean, is that plus wonderful, plus intelligent, plus gorgeous. I don’t know but I’ve decided to stop wondering what the plus is. I’ve decided to stop listening to the world because I am as I should be. I choose to take steps to make myself happy and healthy. This can be done by not focusing on body image issues when having a conversation with friends (or rather not on negative conversations about body image, positive ones are just fine) OR by working on praising other women and men for their physical attributes, as opposed to tearing them down. And for me personally, it’s fine to eat comfort foods, but also eat heart healthy foods, maybe even eat a primarily plant based or plant and fish based diet. That makes me feel good. I will do activities that make me feel good, like walking, dancing and hiking! Please note here that shopping counts as hiking in my book! I wear clothes that flatter my body, I love fashion and I refuse to believe that fashion isn’t something that I can feel good in, and I refuse to be forced to shop in only “plus sized stores” although they do have some nice frocks, I just won’t limit myself by a label on a blouse or the name outside of the building. I speak highly of myself! I praise myself and others! I take time to make myself feel beautiful. I want others to as well. That’s my mission statement, tell me what is yours?
